The best method to fix a hinge that is worn out is to replace the pin. Hardware stores and online shops are both places to purchase new hinge pins. In this case, the latch will not get caught on the strike plate, and it won't close the door. You can adjust a butt-type hinge by loosening the screw in the centre of the hinge (face-on). You can then turn the bottom or top adjustment screws to achieve sideways movement. If there's a screw for compression adjustment on the top, you'll need to remove the cap to gain access to it. To fix a hinge that is flagged it is possible to make use of wood glue, wood filler or epoxy to plug up any gaps. After the filler has dried, sand the area smooth and then apply an application of paint to it. If you're not sure which type of filler to choose, you can consult an expert at a hardware store. You can also choose to use a filler with a higher shine to give the door a more polished look. You can also fill in the gap with wood veneer. This option is a little more expensive, but it will make the door look like new. Recess Hinges With a chisel, make a small recess on the front of the door frame.
